Household Goods (HHG) removals has always been a significant part of an assignment cost, and that is being exacerbated by the substantial global shipping problems.

The attached article issued by the British Association of Removers succinctly explains the issues the industry faces and why costs are skyrocketing as demand outstrips supply. It does mean that shipping quotes aren’t fixed in stone like they used to be and that seeking fixed prices far in advance of the actual move date does not guarantee those prices will be honoured.

We are now seeing removals companies quoting the ‘small print’ as they struggle to cope with the sometimes arbitrary and exploitative container price hikes, imposed by the shipping lines, when they cannot honour the quote they have given.

We understand that long-term assignees want to bring over their personal possessions, but with lengthening shipping time and vastly inflated costs perhaps offering furniture hire and increasing their excess baggage allowance will prove to meet the assignee’s needs and allow the employer to contain their relocation costs.  Ask us for a shipping quote and let us compare those costs against furniture hire costs.
